About the role

We are seeking an experienced and technically credible Technical Maritime Manager to provide technical leadership, oversight and assurance across the PNTL fleet and associated maritime projects.

Reporting to the Head of Ship Management, you will act as the senior technical focal point for vessel condition, maintenance, asset integrity, dry-docking, lifecycle planning, technical assurance and future fleet capability. Working within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment, you will ensure vessels are managed safely, securely, compliantly and cost-effectively, whilst supporting the delivery of nuclear transport operations.

This is a key leadership position that provides owner-level oversight of the ship management contract, ensuring technical standards are maintained and that vessel capability, engineering risks and long-term asset requirements are effectively managed.

What you'll be doing

• Providing technical oversight of the PNTL Ship Management contract, assuring technical delivery, maintenance planning, engineering standards and asset integrity.
• Acting as the senior technical subject matter expert for vessel engineering, maintenance, dry-docking, defect management and lifecycle planning activities.
• Leading the oversight and management of technical risks, including reliability, maintainability, obsolescence and safety-critical systems.
• Reviewing and challenging maintenance strategies, technical budgets, capital investment proposals, repair plans and improvement programmes.
• Supporting vessel modifications, equipment upgrades, design changes and future fleet capability development.
• Providing technical leadership for vessel projects and ensuring robust governance and technical decision-making.
• Supporting new vessel design and fleet development by defining technical requirements and providing assurance throughout concept, design, build and acceptance phases.
• Supporting procurement, tendering and contract development activities for technical ship management and specialist maritime services.
• Providing technical input to operational planning, commercial proposals and transport feasibility assessments.
• Ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, class and flag requirements, environmental legislation, security standards and radioactive material transport requirements.
• Supporting investigations into incidents, defects and non-conformances through technical analysis and assurance of corrective actions.
• Developing technical assurance processes, performance indicators, lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Acting as deputy to the Head of Ship Management where required.

Who we're looking for

Experience

• Significant experience in technical ship management, marine engineering, naval architecture or a related maritime discipline.
• Experience providing technical oversight within a safety-critical, security-sensitive or highly regulated environment.
• Experience supporting or leading vessel modifications, dry-docking activities, major repairs and asset improvement programmes.
• Experience managing technical risks, maintenance strategies and asset lifecycle planning.
• Experience working with classification societies, flag administrations, regulators and technical suppliers.
• Experience providing technical assurance and governance within complex operational environments.
• Experience supporting contract management, procurement and supplier performance activities.

Knowledge

• Recognised professional qualification in marine engineering, naval architecture, marine operations or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of technical ship management, maintenance systems and asset integrity principles.
• Comprehensive knowledge of dry-docking, defect management, reliability and lifecycle planning.
• Detailed understanding of maritime regulatory frameworks, including class and flag requirements.
• Knowledge of maritime safety, environmental, quality and security standards.
• Understanding of technical procurement, contract management and supplier assurance processes.
• Knowledge of vessel design, engineering change control and future capability development.
