About the role

We are looking for a Design Engineer Analyst to support the delivery of complex engineering design and analysis activities within our Technical Solutions team. This role plays a key part in enabling the safe and compliant transport of radioactive materials (RAM), contributing to critical projects across the nuclear industry.

Working with limited supervision, you will deliver technical solutions, contribute to safety cases, and provide specialist advice to both internal stakeholders and external clients. This is an exciting opportunity to work on highly regulated, safety-critical systems while developing innovative engineering solutions.

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering engineering design and analysis activities for RAM transport systems
  • Contributing to the development of safety cases for transport assets and systems
  • Solving complex technical challenges using sound engineering principles
  • Developing scopes of work, including identifying and mitigating technical risks
  • Managing your own workload, reporting progress against time, cost and quality KPIs
  • Ensuring compliance with engineering best practice, company processes and regulatory requirements
  • Working collaboratively with project teams, including Project Managers and Project Controls
  • Providing technical input to bids, projects and business development activities
  • Communicating complex technical concepts clearly to internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting innovation and continuous improvement within engineering processes
  • Representing NTS at industry working groups and stakeholder meetings where required

Training & development

At NTS, we actively support your professional growth and development:

  • Opportunity to work towards or maintain professional engineering accreditation
  • Exposure to high-profile, safety-critical engineering projects
  • Ongoing development through technical mentoring and collaboration
  • Opportunities to broaden experience across design, analysis, safety case and licensing disciplines
  • Support for continuous professional development and career progression

Who we’re looking for

Experience

  • Experience in engineering design and/or analysis within a regulated or safety-critical environment
  • Proven ability to deliver technical work independently or with limited supervision
  • Experience working within project teams and delivering outputs to time and budget
  • Experience identifying technical risks and developing mitigation strategies

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of engineering principles (ideally mechanical engineering)
  • Knowledge of design and analysis methodologies
  • Understanding of safety case development (desirable)
  • Awareness of nuclear, transport or highly regulated industry standards (desirable)

Skills & behaviours

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively
  • High level of personal accountability and ownership of work
  • Good stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proactive, innovative mindset with a drive for continuous improvement
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to safety, quality and compliance

The Kind of People We’re Looking For

We’re interested in who you are, not just what’s on your CV.

You’re likely to thrive at NTS if you:

  • Take ownership of your work and enjoy being trusted to deliver

  • Care about doing the right thing, in the right way
