The Security Advisor will support an effective, timely, and holistic operational security, Emergency Preparedness & Response (EP&R), and Business Continuity (BC) management provision inclusive of all NTS requirements. The role involves ensuring corporate assets, security and weapons systems, and related equipment are ready for NTS Road/Rail and Maritime transport operations, compliant with national and international legislative and regulatory frameworks. Additionally, the Security Advisor will assist the wider Nuclear & Assurance department in providing second line assurance activities and operational security advice.
Principal Accountabilities
Assist in security planning, arrangements, and delivery for NTS transport schedules, ensuring compliance with NTS’ TSS.
Support the Division’s operational security arrangements for all modalities.
Contribute to international consultancy capabilities (IAEA, KCL, WNTI, etc.).
Represent NTS at security meetings, conferences, and forums.
Assist with training and exercising activities.
Produce operational orders, Operational Requirements (ORs), and other documentation.
Compile security risks in line with company risk appetite.
Support corporate incident management and business continuity processes.
Undertake assurance or performance-based activities as required.
Support delivery of Transport Security Plans (TptSPs) and operational security projects.
Implement corporate/management decisions and initiatives.
Manage own workload, including time and deadline management, performance, self-development, health, and well-being.
Form part of the NTS out-of-hours on-call team.
Act as a business partner for all transport modalities, providing timely and accurate security advice.
Ensure the Division meets legislative, regulatory, customer, and stakeholder obligations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Needed
Qualifications:
A levels or degree (or SQL Level 5 equivalent) qualification.
Member of a Professional Affiliation (e.g., UK’s Security Institute or the Institute of Risk Management) or willingness to obtain membership.
Minimum age: 18.
Experience and/or willingness to develop experience in:
Advising on operational security arrangements within nuclear or highly regulated transports.
Advising on complex regulatory and stakeholder relationships.
Planning, training, and responding to major security events.
Responding to major nuclear safety/security incidents at an operational level.
Coordinating operations with armed police services and stakeholders.
Working with regulators/stakeholders in high-risk environments.
Assisting in investigations with a high level of integrity.
Producing/delivering EP&R and Security Operational Orders.
Working within a Project Management environment.
Understanding risk and EP&R management, including BC.
Knowledge and/or willingness to develop knowledge in:
Nuclear security regulations.
Transport emergency response arrangements.
Civil Contingencies Act and transport modality regulations.
Armed policing operations and intelligence.
International nuclear security obligations/processes.
Nuclear, Rail, or Shipping industry/sector.
