What is the key purpose of this role?

Job Purpose

To ensure that the technical regulatory knowledge, skills, and processes to deliver solutions for the transport of radioactive materials (RAM) are developed and maintained to enable the delivery of the NDA mission now and into the future.

Provide specialist Licensing advice and regulatory interpretation to all parts of the business.

Influencing national and international regulatory change; assessing the impact of any proposed regulatory change on current and future activities.

Delivering a portfolio of licensing activities, projects, and stand-alone tasks or as part of wider projects.

The primary scope of this role is to be the NTS expert in the Regulations supporting the transport of radioactive materials.  To proactively seek out, review and implement relevant national and international best practice and influence regulatory change to the benefit of NTS and NDA.

Additionally, the scope includes maintaining and developing technical capability in self and other members of the licensing team and more widely the Technical Solutions team and wider NTS in the National and International Regulations pertaining to the safe transport of RAM including package design, licensing, nuclear liabilities

Key Expectations of the Job Holder

  • Responsible for management and development of the Licensing team to deliver a portfolio of Licensing activities and projects to meet agreed time, cost and quality objectives.
  • Input to personal develop plans in the Licensing team and identification of ongoing annual training requirements to maintain and develop team members in their delivery roles.
  • Leading the delivery of Licensing tasks or projects and provide technical expert advice on Regulations for the Transport of radioactive materials and other dangerous goods.
  • Providing formal estimates to Projects on licensing tasks on existing or future programmed work. 
  • Provide support and input to NTS bids from a Licensing perspective. 
  • Responsible for the management and delivery of Ship Licensing of the transport of Nuclear Materials
  • Line management of Licensing Team. 
  • To lead the delivery of Radioactive Material (RAM) transport licensing activities and projects.
